Where in the World is Coeur d'Alene?
Coeur d'Alene is located in the Idaho Panhandle on beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene, 40 minutes east of Spokane, Washington. Coeur d'Alene is at the heart of Idaho's big water-mountain land where Interstate 90 meets Highway 95, 100 miles south of the Canadian border.
Where does the Mudgy Moose Trail begin and end?
The Trail begins at the base of Tubbs Hill in Downtown Coeur d'Alene. For the more adventuresome, Mudgy actually begins his search for Millie at the southern most tip of Tubbs Hill, about a half mile down a dirt path that circles Tubbs Hill. (Tubbs Hill, a natural area next to The Coeur d'Alene Resort surrounded by a two mile hiking trail, was named for an early Coeur d'Alene resident.)
The trail then follows a 2 1/4 mile route to the Coeur d'Alene Library, then through the Downtown area, around the Resort's famed boardwalk and through the City Park before ending at Independence Point overlooking the lake.
Is the Trail open year 'round?
The Trail is open all year, however Coeur d'Alene enjoys a four season climate and during the winter months, portions of the trail may be covered with ice and snow. The Trail is open during daylight hours and there is no charge for enjoying the walk.
Where do I park to walk the Trail?
There are City Parking Lots at various locations throughout Downtown Coeur d'Alene. The major City Lot, located next to The Coeur d'Alene Resort, offers two hours of free parking and is adjacent to the Tubbs Hill nature area.
What other family activities are there in Coeur d'Alene? Depending on the time of year you travel to North Idaho, there are many family-friendly attractions. By far the best known is Silverwood Theme Park complete with roller coasters, a waterpark and other fun activities.
