Coeur d'Alene Visitor's Member of the Month: Silverwood Theme Park and Aftershock

Silverwood's Aftershock Now Open

Silverwood Theme Park has announced the addition of a new steel rollar coaster that is the park's largest, tallest and costliest single attraction ever. The coaster, recently purchased from Six Flags Great America in Chicago is known as a Great Inverted Boomerang and made by the Dutch company Vekoma.

It took over 70 truckloads to ship the coaster to Silverwood over the past several months.

Silverwood held a contest to name the new coaster with the naming winners of  Aftershock being the first of the public to ride the coaster. The young man who named Aftershock was given a trip to Silverwood for him and his mother from Caraoplis, Pennsylvania. "It was a huge rush - amazing!" said Richard describing his first ride. "Silverwood is a great family park with the nicest people!"

Aftershock is 191 feet tall, almost twice the height of the park's next coaster. Your ride begins being hoisted up at a 90 degree vertical incline before being dropped 177 feet. Riders reach speeds of over 65 miles per hour and feel the force of 4.5 positive G forces. Aftershock then take rider's through a Cobra Roll and Loop, both at over 100 feet in the air. Upon reaching the ride's second vertical tower, riders are again hoisted up a vertical 90 degree incline before being dropped backwards through the track. The ride lasts over 1 minute and 30 seconds, and carries 32 guests per trip.

Silverwood is the Northwest's Largest Theme Park, featuring over 65 rides and attractions. Aftershock now gives the park a total of four coasters, including two classic wooden coasters and the historic Corkscrew. Founded by entreprenuer, Gary Norton, the park is still family owned and operated. 2008 will mark Silverwood's 21st season of operation.

For more information on this and other attractions at Silverwood Theme park, please visit their Website at www.silverwoodthemepark.com.
